FAQ

What do I need to bring?

We have everything you will need for a comfortable stay, from all the cooking essentials,  super soft towels and toiletries in the bathroom.  We would recommend bringing a good pair of walking shoes and a torch for if you arrive after-dark.

How many people does the cabin sleep?

Our cabin sleeps 2 adults in a super-king bed, located on a mezzanine level, accessed by a sliding ladder. If you have a little one to bring along we can arrange for a Bugaboo ‘Stardust’ travel cot for you.

What cooking facilities are provided?

Our compact kitchen features a two ring induction hob, mini oven with grill and fridge with ice box. In addition to cookware, plates and crockery we also provide some essentials including local Dorset Tea, Bad Hand Coffee beans, sugar, salt & pepper, olive oil, vegetable oil, dried herbs & spices and fresh herbs on the pots on the patio. We have a handful of recipe books from Anna Jones, Rosie Sykes & Frederik Bill Brahe, along with some recipe ideas from our friend, Lille based chef Max Kepa. There is also a firepit for outdoor cooking.

How do I hire the pizza oven for my stay?

The pizza oven is £10 to hire per stay, you can order a pizza starter from Chefs for Foodies. Just order it to home and bring it along with you on your stay. https://chefsforfoodies.com/collections/pizza-kits

How much are the breakfast boxes and what’s in them?

We offer a Meat & Veggie breakfast box, they are £35 each and are typically enough for 2 guests over 2 days. We source our breakfast boxes from local farmshop Steepton Bil.

Meat (Steepton Bill) includes; Butter, Eggs, Hash Browns, Sourdough bread, 4 x Black Pudding, 6 x Sausages & 6 x Bacon rashers.

Veggie (Steepton Bill) includes: Butter, Sourdough bread, Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Hashbrowns, Eggs, Grapefruit & Yoghurt.

Is there Internet connection?

Yes, you can connect to our wifi on arrival, of which the login details will be left in our welcome booklet. Our internet connection is good and previous guests have stayed for remote working.

Can I connect my laptop to the projector?

Unfortunately you cannot connect via HDMI lead due to the projector being ceiling mounted, we have a Roku Stream bar connected which has an array of apps for subscription services which you are welcome to sign-in on, we also provided a Mubi cinema subscription for those wanting to try something a little different. You can stream you own spofity account via the Roku or pair it with the Bluetooth listening to your own music. If you have a windows laptop you can cast your screen using Miracast or if you have a mac you can use AirPlay.

Can I play music?

We have a Spotify subscription at the Bide and our friends have made some great playlists, including this one by Tom Clatworthy.

How far is the walk to the cabin from the car park?

The walk from the car park to the cabin is about 200m via a gravel pathway, unfortunately the nature of the terrain means it is not suitable to drive your vehicle to the cabin and we are talking from experience when we say your vehicle will get stuck if you attempt it. Please use the trolley provided to ferry any items you arrive with. Please note that if you arrive after dark you will need to bring a torch with you, the pathway has marker lights to guide the way but these have been kept to a minimum as excess lighting is harmful to much of the wildlife – the starry skyies more than make up for the inconvenience we promise.

Unfortunately we are not able to accommodate dogs due to their being livestock in the neighbouring fields.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted in the cabin. Smoking is allowed outside the cabin, cigarette butts must be disposed of safely.

Can I read the books without buying one?

Unfortunately the books are only for sale, we have a great selection curate by our friend and writer Charlotte Barrow. We only charge the RRP and do not make any money from this.

Will I get a good shower?

Yes – whilst our shower designed by Nebia will reduce water use by 40%, this is not at the expense of a poor shower – this is due to its unique design with atomizes the water, ensuring greater surface area from the same amount of water.

Can we use our own toiletries and detergents during our stay?

Our cabin is supplied with natural environmentally friendly products by eco company Fill that are sensitive to the cabin and surroundings. We ask our guests not to use their own toiletries or detergents during your stay.

How does a wood fired hot tub work?

The hot tub features a wood-burning stove that sits within the water, ensuring efficient transfer of heat from the fire to the water – but don’t worry you won’t burn yourself thanks to the protective guard. You will need to allow 3-3.5 hours to get the water upto temperature but it can be left covered over-night to ensure much of the heat is retained for the following day. One key benefit of our hot tub is that the water is not chlorinated and is fresh for your stay which leads to a much nicer experience – we also provide bath salts to create your own outdoor spa.

Do you have any board games?

Yes we have board games and puzzles – all especially chosen for playing as a pair in mind.

Is it warm enough to stay in the winter?

Yes certainly, our cabin features thick insulated walls and has been built with passive Haus principles in-mind – including good air tightness and heat recovery. In addition, we have background heating which will ensure you arrive to a cosy cabin. And a hot water bottle for bed if it get’s particularly chilly!

Can I arrive by public transport?

Unfortunately this is not the most convenient way to visit but it is certainly possible. Our nearest train station is Moreton which has direct trains from London Waterloo and Weymouth. From here we are a 15 minute taxi ride way – if you are planning on coming this route please let us know so we can assist with booking a taxi. Here are a couple of taxi companies we recommend: DK cars 07519355350 & Garrison cars 07774453234. We would also advise you either pre-book a breakfast box or arrange for a food delivery due to the isolated nature of the cabin – however you will be able to walk to the pub and farm shop if you would prefer.
